As a pro makeup artist, I’m a living, breathing magnet for new products. Mecca has a new release? Say no more – I’ll be on the first train to go (safely) play with the tester…
Once in a while though, a product comes along that instantly changes your makeup game. Kinda like when you buy new clothes and then wonder what you wore before that piece was in your wardrobe. I know you know what I’m saying! Here are the five products I currently can’t live without in my routine.
MECCA MAX OFF DUTY CONTOUR STICK - $18
Depending on what school of makeup you subscribe to, you might read the word ‘contour’ and flinch – but those days are over, bestie. This contour stick is super creamy and blends like a dream, meaning triggering orange bronzer stripes are a thing of the past. It’s also super buildable, meaning you can add more product for more definition.
I use this product literally every day. I swipe it along my hairline and then just above my cheekbones and blend, blend, blend. You can use a beauty sponge to blend OR I personally love using a dense, angular brush like this one (also from MECCA MAX). The contour sticks come in three shades (Medium, Deep, Rich).
MM ARTISTRY MINI POINTED Q-TIPS - $8.95
I know what you’re thinking, ‘cotton buds lol, what the F is she talking about?’. Well sis, hear me out. There are cotton buds you get at the supermarket, that have big, wire-y heads and then there are cotton buds with a point so fine that they’d cut through butter. Okay, that’s an exaggeration, but these cotton tips are well worth the investment and I’ll tell you why.
Do you have trouble getting your winged eyeliner to look as sharp as the Instagram pic you’re copying? Have you ever accidentally wiped off too much eyeshadow while ‘cleaning it up’? Me too – until I had these. Get some micellar water on the tiny tip, look straight in the mirror and pull it along the liner towards your temple. The tip will gently pull and clean the line up as you go. Your eyeliner will be chef’s kiss from now on, you’re welcome.
DIOR BACKSTAGE GLOW FACE PALETTE - $76
Alright, I know – this guy has been on the market for a while now, but cross my heart, as I was doing my makeup this morning I looked down at this palette in my hand and just thought to myself ‘wow, I love you’.
You’ll find this in the kit of every makeup artist worth their weight because it gives the most beautiful glow without looking gritty or glittery. I love swirling my brush in the white & gold shades together for a beautiful highlight on the high points of my face & the inner corner of my eyes. The pink also makes a beautiful blush topper and the bronze a great eyeshadow. It’s gorgeous and for the quality it honestly doesn’t break the bank. Get in now because it often sells out at Sephora.
Okay, you’ve probably tried the OG Fix+ but bestie, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Fix+ Magic Radiance was actually formulated by a MAC artist who was mixing this special potion together to use on her clients and the business was like, ‘whoa – this sh*t is good’.
What makes it so special? It’s loaded with hyaluronic acid aka the key ingredient in moisturisers that makes your skin plump and juicy. I use this bad boy literally everyday as the first step in my makeup, spraying it liberally all over my face and then patting it in before applying my moisturiser, primer and SPF. Honestly, cannot recommend this more highly and you will be walking around a beat that looks like it could've been done by a pro. Get it, sis.
SAINT JACK MAKEUP CLEANING MIST - $36
Okay, you knew this was coming. This is my blog / website, so I kinda *have* to mention my product. A lot of people ask why I started Saint Jack with the Makeup Cleaning Mist instead of making something more "fun" like a lipstick or blush. The answer is simple – there was nothing on the market that I liked that did what the Mist does.
It’s perfect to clean my personal brushes between deep cleans, and let’s be honest – that doesn’t happen nearly as often as it should. I spray it on all my products once a week to stop bacterial breakouts on my BEAUTIFUL skin. I use it to clean down my stainless-steel mixing plate after I’ve mixed foundations or played with a glitter.
So, what do you think? Anything you’re surprised made the list? Something you think I’ve missed? Send me an email to hello@saintjack.com.au or DM me @bysaintjack and tell me your favourite product right now. Sharing is caring xo
